Project Management

A calendar with days shaded in different colors

Project management supports the success of a project by working on all the intricacies that go into a team successfully completing the work in a timely manner. Many projects have numerous moving parts, unforeseen challenges, and complex dynamics happening in a non-linear fashion; having someone who’s responsible f0r ensuring project completion while being mindful of the above is often useful.

When I work in a project management capacity, I not only work to ensure that tasks are completed but also work on other important aspects that support the project that may not be explicitly articulated such as:

  • Relationships within the team and other stakeholders are formed and maintained;

  • Getting the word out about the project through a variety of means including conference presentations, organizing activities, and online presence;

  • Identifying new directions or collaborations; and

  • Working on the long or longer term sustainability (when applicable)

Some Past and Present Project Management work

  • A project supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion endeavors among the American Institute of Physics (AIP) Member and Affiliate Societies. This involves figuring out how to work better together.

  • Math and Statistical Sciences Working Group convened by Transforming Postsecondary Education (TPSE) Math. Individuals from multiple math and statistical sciences professional societies have been working editing and revising an EDI self-assessment.

  • American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) Professional Society SEA Change team. AAPT was selected by AAAS to take part in a pilot for an EDI self-assessment regarding AAPT's policies, practices, and culture around EDI.
